How long will it take to get an appointment?

When you give us a call to book an appointment, you can usually get a same-day appointment. If appointments are filled, we can book you in for another date. If you send us a message, please allow up to 24 hours for our staff to get back to you and book you an appointment. How often should I see the dentist?

Regular dental visits are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and overall well-being.

The traditional rule of thumb is to visit the dentist every six months.

The best way to repair, alleviate and prevent dental concerns is to visit your dentist for regular check-ups. People with a higher risk of dental diseases, like smokers or people with a particularly sweet tooth, will find it helpful to visit the dentist up to every three or four months. Let’s keep our mouths healthy and fit, just like our bodies!
What’s the best technique for cleaning my teeth?

The toothbrush should be held at a 45-degree angle, with the bristles pointed toward your gum line, for optimum results when brushing your teeth. It’s critical to thoroughly brush the confined space where the teeth and gums meet since it’s a perfect breeding ground for bacteria and plaque. I also like toothbrushes with smaller heads and softer bristles because they are less harsh on your teeth.

Choose a toothpaste with fluoride since it will work with the minerals in your saliva to strengthen your tooth enamel and fend off infection.

Gum disease can be dramatically decreased by flossing, according to research. Ideally, you should floss once a day and preferably right before brushing.
Do I need to have X-rays?

X-rays provide your dentist with additional important information about the condition of your teeth and will reveal any hidden decay. For your own convenience, we have our own X-ray machine on-site, so it is all done at the time of your appointment without any delays.

Generally, x-rays are taken every two years depending on decay risk or if there is acute pain.

Some patients express concern about the amount of radiation there is when taking x-rays. Dental x-ray radiation is equivalent to 2% of your normal everyday radiation or 0.2% equivalent to a 6-hour flight. As they are digital, the exposure time is very low and is actually the lowest amount of exposure in any industry. It is important to remember x-rays provide a full examination to ensure you receive an accurate assessment of your dentition.
When is it right for my child’s first dentist visit?

Root canal treatment is required for teeth that have deep cavities/caries, infection below the root, abscess due to tooth decay, pain, etc. Dr. Prashanth believes in being minimally invasive and proceeds with a root canal only if absolutely necessary. Call us to get a second opinion on a tooth that has been advised root canal earlier.

Why are my teeth sensitive?

Tooth sensitivity can be caused by many factors, including gum disease, decay, and gum recession. For all of these, the main reason is exposed dentine, the tooth substance under the enamel. Enamel can be damaged from brushing teeth too hard and from dietary or stomach acids. The sensitivity should be investigated to find the cause in your case, and your dentist will come up with a plan to help to ease it. In some cases, this may be as simple as changing your toothpaste.
Will my treatment hurt?

Modern dental treatment with the use of anesthetics should not cause you any pain. If you do feel any discomfort during a dental procedure, you should let your dentist know straight away. If you are going to have a complex treatment, your dentist may recommend sedation.
Is a dummy damaging to my child’s teeth?

The evidence on this question is mixed. However, as long as the dummy is put away well before the child gets their adult teeth, there does not appear to be any convincing evidence of long-term damage. There is some evidence to support that speech development may be delayed with the use of a dummy.
Is teeth-whitening damaging?

Teeth whitening can cause sensitivity, but when done safely, there should be no long-term damage. To minimize sensitivity, doing it slower helps. Instead of in-chair whitening, at-home whitening may help reduce discomfort. There are slow-release and low-dose formulas available, which may be more suitable for those with existing sensitivity.
When is it right for my child’s first dentist visit?

Since every child is unique, dentists advise waiting until the child is two years old for the first appointment unless there is an immediate problem.

In this first visit, the dentist checks to see that their development (mouth, gums, and teeth) is normal and detect any potential problems that can be managed before any serious conditions occur. Further, it provides the opportunity for the child to be educated in good oral health care.
